Markdown Files

Copera Drive opens Markdown (.md) files in a built-in editor where your team can write together live. The Markdown tab is where you write, and the Preview tab shows the formatted result. The file stays a plain .md file: what you save is exactly the Markdown text you wrote, so it works with any other Markdown tool.

Creating a Markdown File​

  1. In Drive, open the folder where the file should live.
  2. Click New, then Markdown file. You can also click Markdown in the Create new row on Drive Home.
  3. The new file opens right away.

To have AI Chat write it, choose Markdown as the type in the Drive Home composer and describe what you need.

Writing in the Markdown Tab​

Click the Markdown tab to edit the text. Everyone who has the file open writes in the same text at the same time, and each person's changes appear for the others within moments. Changes save automatically.

Use standard Markdown syntax, for example:

- Drive has its own area
- Office files open in tabs

> Quotes start with a greater-than sign.

Checking the Preview Tab​

Click the Preview tab to see the formatted document: headings, lists, links, quotes, tables, code blocks and images. The preview updates live as people type. To change the text, switch back to the Markdown tab.

For safety, the preview does not run raw HTML, and images and links are shown through Copera.

AI and Markdown Files​

AI works on Markdown files the same way it does on Office files:

  • Open AI Chat in the file header to edit the file with the AI panel, for example "Summarize this in three bullets" or "Translate it to Portuguese".
  • Ask AI Chat in the right rail to create Markdown files or to turn a Markdown file into cards on a board.
  • Every AI edit appears in AI changes and can be reverted. See AI in Office Files.

Version History​

Markdown files have version history like Office files. Open it with the Version history button in the file header, or from the file's menu in Drive.

Markdown Files and Pages​

Markdown files and Pages are different things:

Pages do not import or export Markdown files. Keep your .md files in Drive.

Frequently Asked Questions​

Does Copera change my Markdown when I save?​

No. Copera keeps your text exactly as you wrote it, including its original line endings. A file you open and save without editing stays byte-for-byte the same.

Can I edit in the Preview tab?​

Not yet. The Preview tab is read-only. Edit in the Markdown tab, and the preview updates as you type.

Can I use HTML inside Markdown?​

The text can contain HTML, and it is kept in the file, but the preview does not run it.

Can AI edits to a Markdown file be undone?​

Yes. Open AI changes in the file header and click Revert on the change.
