Artifacts in Drive

Artifacts are interactive apps, dashboards and pages that you build with AI Chat or upload yourself, and Drive keeps them next to your other files. An artifact can be a pricing calculator, a revenue dashboard or an interactive pitch. In Drive you can put artifacts in folders, star, rename, share and trash them, upload your own HTML apps, and download any artifact as a .zip or a PDF.

One Artifact, Two Places​

The artifacts in Drive are the same artifacts you see in AI Chat → Artifacts, not copies. Changes in one place show up in the other:

In AI Chat, each artifact has a Show in Drive option that opens its folder in Drive with the artifact selected.

Artifacts that existed before they appeared in Drive are placed in an Artifacts folder in their owner's My Disk.

The Artifacts Page​

Click Artifacts in the Drive menu to see all your artifacts in one place. Use the filters at the top:

  • All — Every artifact you can open.
  • Made with AI Chat — Artifacts that AI Chat built.
  • Uploaded — Artifacts you or your teammates uploaded.
  • Shared with me — Artifacts other people shared with you.

Each card shows a preview, the folder the artifact is in, and buttons to download it as a .zip or a PDF. Artifacts also appear inside folders and in the Suggested files on Drive Home, with their own rust-colored </> icon.

Creating an Artifact With AI Chat​

  1. Click New → Artifact or PDF with AI Chat, click Create with AI Chat on the Artifacts page, or choose Artifact in the Drive Home composer.
  2. Describe what you want, for example "an interactive pitch from my meeting notes" or "a dashboard of Q3 revenue by region".
  3. AI Chat builds the artifact and saves it in the folder you are working in (or My Disk). Artifacts can't be kept on the Workspace Disk, so if you are in a Workspace Disk folder, the artifact is saved in My Disk → Artifacts.

To change an artifact later, open it and ask AI Chat, for example "Add a filter by region and make the chart stacked." Each change creates a new version of the artifact.

Uploading an Artifact​

You can turn your own HTML app into an artifact:

  • A single .html file, or
  • A .zip file with an index.html at its top level and its web files (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SVG).

The file can be up to 10 MB.

To upload:

  1. Click New → Upload files or an HTML app, or click Upload HTML or .zip on the Artifacts page.
  2. Choose the file. You can also drag an .html or .zip file into Drive.
  3. Copera checks the files and creates the artifact in the current folder.

When you upload from the New menu or by dragging into a folder, a file that can't become an artifact is not lost: a .zip that isn't a web app (for example a zip of photos) is uploaded as an ordinary file, and if Copera can't turn an HTML app into an artifact, it saves it as an ordinary file and tells you why ("Saved as a file: …"). The Upload HTML or .zip button on the Artifacts page only creates artifacts, so it tells you what is wrong instead, for example "The .zip has no index.html at its top level."

Uploads to the Workspace Disk always stay ordinary files, because artifacts can't be kept there.

Uploaded artifacts work like artifacts made with AI Chat: you can open, share, publish and download them, and AI Chat can edit them.

Artifacts always run in a separate, isolated space, never inside your Copera workspace. This is true for uploaded apps too, so code in an artifact can't reach your other Copera data.

Opening an Artifact​

Click an artifact to open it in the artifact viewer. In the web app it opens in a new browser tab; in the desktop app it opens as a tab. The viewer has:

  • A Preview of the running artifact and a Code view of its files.
  • Share, Download .zip, Export as PDF and Show in Drive, and the artifact's Version history.
  • The right rail, so you can ask AI Chat to change the artifact while you look at it.

Downloading an Artifact​

  • .zip — Downloads the artifact's project files. The zip can be uploaded again later to create an identical artifact.
  • PDF — Saves a PDF of the artifact as it looks right now.

Both buttons are on every artifact card in Drive, in the artifact viewer, and in AI Chat → Artifacts.

Sharing an Artifact​

Artifacts keep their own sharing settings: private, shared with specific people, or open to the whole workspace. Sharing an artifact from Drive changes those same settings, and the reverse.

Artifacts can't be moved to the Workspace Disk (W:); if you try, Copera explains that artifacts can't go there and suggests sharing the artifact instead.

Artifacts do not inherit the sharing of the folder they are in. If an artifact in a shared folder is not shared with someone, it shows a lock for them. Share the artifact itself to give them access.

Frequently Asked Questions​

Are artifacts in Drive copies of the ones in AI Chat?​

No. They are the same artifacts. Renaming, trashing or restoring one in Drive also changes it in AI Chat → Artifacts.

What can I upload as an artifact?​

An .html file, or a .zip with an index.html at its top level and its web files (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SVG), up to 10 MB.

Can I put an artifact on the Workspace Disk?​

No. Artifacts keep their own sharing, so they stay on My Disk. Share the artifact with your team instead.

Can AI Chat edit an artifact I uploaded?​

Yes. Open the artifact and ask AI Chat for the change you want.

Why does an artifact in a shared folder show a lock?​

Artifacts use their own sharing. Share the artifact itself with the people who should see it.

Can I get the source of an artifact?​

Yes. Click .zip to download its project files.
