AI Features Overview

Copera AI is a suite of AI features embedded across the platform — chat, boards, documents, email, and voice — rather than a separate tool you switch to. It spans six capability areas: conversational AI Chat, multi-step Deep Research with citations, text-to-image generation, AI-powered row creation and formulas in Boards, contextual writing assistance inside Documents, and Bankai voice AI for hands-free dictation and commands on Windows and macOS. Every capability respects your workspace permissions, so AI never surfaces content you could not already access.

AI Capabilities​

Copera's AI features span four main areas:

AI Chat​

AI Chat is a dedicated conversational assistant built into Copera. You can ask questions, generate content, brainstorm ideas, and get help with tasks through a modern chat interface. Attach files and documents from your workspace, search the web, generate images, and conduct in-depth research — all within the same conversation. AI Chat supports multiple conversations, conversation history, threading, and rich response formatting.

Deep Research​

Deep Research is an advanced AI Chat capability for thorough, multi-step investigation of complex topics. When enabled, the AI creates a research plan, breaks your question into sub-questions, searches multiple sources, and produces a comprehensive cited report. You can review and edit the plan, choose a depth tier (Standard, Deep, or Very Deep), and receive a notification when the research completes.

Image Generation​

AI Chat can generate images from text descriptions. Describe what you want in natural language and the AI creates it inline in your conversation. View generated images in a full-screen lightbox and download them to your computer.

AI in Boards​

Boards include several AI-powered tools to speed up data entry and formula creation:

  • AI Row Creation --- Describe what you want in natural language or use voice input, and AI will generate the column values and create a new row automatically.
  • AI Formula Assistant --- Describe the calculation you need in plain language, and AI will write the board formula for you, understanding your table's columns and data types.

AI in Documents​

The document editor includes an AI assistant that works directly inside your content:

  • Ask AI --- Trigger the AI prompt from the slash command menu or text selection to ask questions, generate content, or transform selected text.
  • Writing Assistance --- Generate paragraphs, improve writing quality, fix grammar, change tone, summarize content, and more.
  • Contextual Conversations --- Have a back-and-forth conversation with AI about your document content, with the ability to insert generated text directly into the editor.

Bankai Voice​

Bankai is your voice-powered productivity feature. Instead of typing, you hold a key, speak naturally, and Bankai handles the rest --- whether that means dictating formatted text, answering a question, navigating Copera by voice, or having a spoken conversation with AI. Bankai operates in five voice modes (Omni, Dictation, Ask, Commands, and Chat) and is available in the Copera desktop app.

  • Dictation --- Speak and your words become formatted text at the cursor.
  • Ask --- Ask a question by voice and receive an AI answer at the cursor.
  • Commands --- Navigate Copera hands-free with voice commands.
  • Chat --- Walkie-talkie conversation with AI, complete with spoken responses.
  • Omni --- The default mode where AI classifies your intent automatically.

How AI Context Works​

Across all AI features, context is what makes responses relevant to your work. In AI Chat, you can attach workspace files, documents, and Drive items to your conversation. In Documents, the AI automatically has access to the content of the document you are editing. In Boards, the AI understands your table structure, column types, and existing data when generating row values or formulas.

Accessing AI Features​

  • AI Chat --- Click the AI section in the left sidebar to open the conversational assistant.
  • Board AI --- Look for the sparkles icon in board table toolbars when creating rows or editing formulas.
  • Document AI --- Use the slash command menu (type /) and select "Ask AI", or select text and choose the AI option from the context menu.
  • Bankai Voice --- Enable voice features in the AI sidebar and use push-to-talk shortcuts (Ctrl+Win on Windows, Fn on Mac) to speak instead of type.
  • Global Search --- From the global search bar, prefix your query with ! to send it directly to AI Chat.

Every AI capability is available on every plan — Free, Pro, and Max. What changes is how many pooled AI credits your workspace has to spend. Free workspaces get a $5/month gift (non-cumulative). Each Pro seat adds $40 to the shared pool; each Max seat adds $500 to the shared pool. Any workspace member can draw from the pool.

Frequently Asked Questions​

What AI models power Copera?​

Copera uses a mix of leading AI providers (including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google models) depending on the capability. Deep Research uses Copera's self-hosted research pipeline with Perplexity Sonar for search. Image generation uses a state-of-the-art text-to-image model. Bankai voice uses AssemblyAI for transcription.

Does Copera AI have access to my workspace data?​

Yes, but only to data you already have permission to view. AI Chat, Boards AI, and Documents AI search across your accessible documents, board rows, meeting transcriptions, and Drive files to ground responses in your own content. Nothing is shared with other workspaces, and nothing you are not authorized to see is ever surfaced.

Can I use Copera AI without an internet connection?​

No. All AI capabilities require an internet connection to reach the underlying models. The Copera Desktop app and browser both need online access for AI Chat, Deep Research, image generation, and Bankai voice.

What is the difference between AI Chat, Deep Research, and Bankai?​

AI Chat is the conversational assistant for questions, content generation, and file analysis. Deep Research is a mode inside AI Chat for exhaustive, cited multi-step investigations. Bankai is the voice-first layer in the Copera desktop app — it lets you dictate text, ask questions, or issue navigation commands by holding a key and speaking.

How do I enable AI for my workspace?​

AI is enabled on every plan by default — there is no feature gate to unlock. Every workspace starts with some pooled AI credits: Free gets a $5/month gift (non-cumulative), each Pro seat adds $40 to the shared pool, and each Max seat adds $500 to the shared pool. Any member can draw from the pool. If you run out of credits, add paid seats or upgrade some seats to Max to grow the pool.

Is my data used to train AI models?​

No. Copera does not use your workspace content to train third-party AI models. Your data is only sent to the AI provider for the duration of the request needed to generate a response.
