AI in Documents
The Copera document editor includes a built-in AI assistant that helps you write, refine, and understand content without leaving the page. Whether you need to draft a first version, improve existing text, translate content, or get a summary, the AI is available directly in the editor.
How to Access the AI
There are two ways to invoke the AI assistant in the editor:
- Slash command --- Type
/Ask AIon a new line to open the AI input. Type your prompt and the AI responds inline in the document. - Space trigger --- Press Space on an empty line (when enabled in your settings) to open the AI prompt input.
The AI operates within the context of your current document, so it can reference and work with the content you have already written.
What the AI Can Do
Generate Content
Ask the AI to draft content for you:
- "Write an introduction for a product launch announcement."
- "Create a list of 5 discussion points for our team meeting."
- "Draft an executive summary of this document."
The AI generates text that you can accept as-is, edit, or regenerate with a different prompt.
Improve and Refine
Select existing text and ask the AI to improve it:
- Fix grammar and spelling --- Clean up text without changing the meaning.
- Make it more concise --- Shorten verbose passages while preserving the key points.
- Make it more formal --- Adjust the tone for professional or executive audiences.
- Make it more casual --- Soften the tone for internal or friendly communications.
- Expand --- Add more detail to a brief outline or bullet points.
Summarize
Ask the AI to summarize your document or a selected section. This is especially useful for long documents where you need a quick overview or want to create an executive summary at the top.
Translate
Ask the AI to translate your content into another language. Simply specify the target language in your prompt, and the AI produces a translated version that you can insert into the document or use as a reference.
Answer Questions
Ask questions about the document's content:
- "What are the key action items mentioned in this document?"
- "What dates are referenced in this section?"
- "Summarize the risks outlined above."
The AI reads the document context and provides answers based on what is written.
Working with AI Output
When the AI generates content:
- The output appears in the document at the cursor position.
- You can accept the content to keep it in place.
- You can edit it directly like any other text.
- You can regenerate with a refined prompt if the first result is not what you need.
- You can discard the output to remove it entirely.
Tips for Effective Prompts
- Be specific --- "Write a 3-sentence introduction about our Q4 sales results" produces better results than "Write an introduction."
- Provide context --- The AI uses the document content as context, but you can add more detail in your prompt for better results.
- Iterate --- If the first response is close but not perfect, refine your prompt and try again rather than editing extensively by hand.
- Use for structure --- Ask the AI to create an outline or template structure, then fill in the details yourself.
