Document Navigation
As your workspace grows, efficient navigation becomes essential. Copera provides several tools to help you move through the document tree quickly, find specific pages, and keep your most important documents within reach.
The Document Tree
The primary navigation tool is the collapsible document tree in the left sidebar. Documents are organized hierarchically --- parent documents contain child documents, which can contain their own children, and so on without depth limits.
Expanding and Collapsing
Click the arrow icon next to any parent document to expand or collapse its children. When collapsed, only the parent is visible, keeping the sidebar clean. When expanded, all direct children appear indented beneath the parent.
Drag and Drop
Reorder documents by dragging them within the tree:
- Reorder at the same level --- Drag a document up or down among its siblings to change its position.
- Nest inside a parent --- Drag a document onto another document to make it a child.
- Move between levels --- Drag a deeply nested document to a higher level or into a different branch.
The entire sub-tree (the document and all its descendants) moves together.
Sidebar Sections
The document sidebar is divided into sections to help you find documents based on your relationship to them:
| Section | Contents |
|---|---|
| My Docs | Documents you created. |
| Team Workspace Docs | Documents shared with the entire workspace. |
| Shared With Me | Documents explicitly shared with you by someone else. |
| Starred | Documents you have starred for quick access. |
These sections act as filters on the same underlying document tree, so a single document may appear in more than one section.
Starring Documents
Star a document to pin it to the Starred section at the top of the sidebar:
- Right-click a document in the tree or open its context menu.
- Select Star.
Starred documents appear in a dedicated section that is always visible, regardless of where the document lives in the tree hierarchy. To unstar a document, repeat the process and select Unstar.
Search
Use the Command Palette (Ctrl+K on Windows/Linux, Cmd+K on Mac) to search for any document by title. Results appear instantly as you type, and selecting a result opens the document immediately.
For full-text search across document contents, use the workspace-level search bar. This searches not just titles but also the body text of every document you have access to.
Breadcrumbs
When you open a deeply nested document, breadcrumbs appear at the top of the page showing the full path from the root to the current document. Click any breadcrumb to jump to that ancestor document. Breadcrumbs provide orientation so you always know where you are in the hierarchy.
Recent Documents
Copera tracks the documents you have recently opened. You can access your recent history through the sidebar or the Command Palette, making it quick to jump back to something you were working on.
Keyboard Navigation
Navigate the document tree with your keyboard for faster workflows:
- Arrow keys --- Move up and down through the tree.
- Enter --- Open the selected document.
- Left/Right arrows --- Collapse or expand a parent document.
Next Steps
- Creating Documents --- Create new documents and organize them in the tree.
- Sharing & Permissions --- Control who can see and edit your documents.
- Editor Overview --- Start writing with the rich text editor.
