Editor Overview
The Copera document editor is a powerful block-based rich text editor that lets you create beautifully formatted content without ever leaving your browser. It combines the simplicity of a word processor with the flexibility of a modern block editor: every paragraph, heading, image, table, and layout is a block you can move, transform, color, comment on, and rearrange.
Key Capabilities
The editor supports a wide range of content types and formatting options:
-
Rich text formatting --- Headings, bold, italic, strikethrough, underline, inline code, code blocks with syntax highlighting, bullet lists, numbered lists, checklists, blockquotes, tables, horizontal rules, links, text colors, highlights, and font options. Learn more in Text Formatting.
-
Slash commands --- Type
/on a new line to open the command menu. Quickly insert any block type --- headings, lists, tables, callouts, toggles, columns, images, media, embeds, and more --- without reaching for a toolbar. Learn more in Slash Commands. -
Toggles and callouts --- Collapse long sections behind a toggle, or draw attention to a note, tip, or warning with a colored callout box. See Toggles and Callouts below.
-
Multi-column layouts --- Arrange blocks side by side in two to five columns, and drag the dividers to resize each column. See Multi-Column Layouts below.
-
Embeds and media --- Upload images, video, audio, and files, create Mermaid diagrams, and embed content from services like YouTube, Figma, Miro, Loom, Google Docs, and many others. Learn more in Embeds & Media.
-
Block colors --- Give a block its own background and text color to organize and emphasize your content. See Block Colors below.
-
Mentions --- Type
@to mention a team member, link to another document, or reference a board row. Type#to mention a channel. Learn more in Mentions. -
Inline comments --- Leave anchored comments on any text or block and discuss in threads, right in the margin. Learn more in Inline Comments.
-
Listen (text to speech) --- Have a document, a block, or a selection read aloud in a built-in audio player. See Listen to a Document below.
-
Drag and drop --- Rearrange blocks by grabbing the handle on the left side of any block and moving it to a new position.
-
Real-time collaboration cursors --- When multiple people edit the same document, each person's cursor and selection are visible in a distinct color, so you always know who is editing where.
The Formatting Toolbar
A floating toolbar appears when you select text, giving you quick access to formatting options like bold, italic, strikethrough, code, highlight, link, and text color --- plus a comment button to start an inline comment on your selection. For block-level operations, use the slash command menu or the block handle.
The Block Handle Menu
Hover over any block and a handle (a small grip) appears at its left edge. Drag the handle to move the block, or click it to open the block menu. The menu is searchable and offers, depending on the block type:
- Turn into --- Convert the block to another type (for example, a paragraph into a heading, a callout, or a list).
- Color --- Set the block's background and text color.
- Duplicate (Ctrl+D) --- Make a copy of the block directly below.
- Copy --- Copy the block to your clipboard so you can paste it elsewhere.
- Delete (Del) --- Remove the block.
- Comment (Ctrl+Shift+M) --- Start an inline comment on the block.
- Ask AI (Ctrl+J) --- Hand the block to the AI assistant to rewrite, summarize, or work with.
- Listen --- Have just that block read aloud.
You can also select several blocks at once and act on them together --- duplicate, copy, delete, color, turn into, ask AI, or listen to the whole selection.
Toggles and Callouts
Toggles let you collapse content behind a clickable heading so long documents stay scannable. Insert one with /Toggle list, type a summary, and add any content inside; readers click the arrow to expand or collapse it. You can also create toggle headings (/Toggle heading 1, 2, or 3) that combine a section heading with a collapsible body --- ideal for FAQs and large, sectioned pages.
Callouts are colored boxes that make a note, tip, or warning stand out from the surrounding text. Insert one with /Callout and type your message inside. Learn more about both in Text Formatting.
Multi-Column Layouts
Place blocks side by side with /2 columns through /5 columns. Once a layout is created, drop any blocks into each column and drag the dividers between columns to resize them. Columns are great for comparisons, side-by-side notes, and richer page designs. Learn more in Text Formatting.
Block Colors
Give any text block its own background and text color to organize and highlight your content. Open a block's handle menu, choose Color, and pick from the available palette. Block colors apply to paragraphs, headings, quotes, and lists, and they travel with the block when you move or duplicate it. Learn more in Text Formatting.
Listen to a Document
Copera can read your content aloud. Use the Listen action to start a floating audio player with play and pause controls, a progress bar, 10-second skip buttons, and adjustable playback speed. You can listen to:
- The whole document.
- A single block, from the block handle menu.
- A selection of blocks, from the multi-block menu.
The player floats above your document and can be dragged out of the way, so you can keep reading or editing while you listen.
AI Integration
The editor includes a built-in AI assistant. You can invoke it through the slash command /Ask AI, from the block handle menu's Ask AI action, or by pressing Space on an empty line (when enabled). The AI can help you generate content, improve your writing, or answer questions about the document. Learn more in AI in Documents.
