Notification Settings
Staying informed without being overwhelmed is key to productive teamwork. Copera gives you granular control over notifications at both the channel level and the global level, so you only receive alerts that matter.
Per-Channel Notification Options
Every channel has a mute notifications setting in its Settings tab. Open the channel details dialog and navigate to Settings to find the dropdown. The available options are:
| Option | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Not Muted | You receive notifications for every new message in the channel. This is the default. |
| Mentions Only | You are only notified when someone @mentions you, @all, or @online. All other messages arrive silently. |
| Muted for 8 hours | All notifications from this channel are suppressed for the next 8 hours, then revert to your previous setting. |
| Muted for 1 day | All notifications are suppressed for 24 hours. |
| Muted for 1 week | All notifications are suppressed for 7 days. |
| Always Muted | The channel is permanently muted until you manually unmute it. |
When a channel is muted (any option other than "Not Muted"), a muted icon appears next to the channel name in the sidebar, and the status bar shows which mute option is active along with the expiration time for time-based mutes.
Global Notification Defaults
You can set default notification behavior for all new channels and direct messages from the Settings page in your account.
- Click your avatar in the bottom-left corner and go to Settings.
- Navigate to the Notifications section.
- Under Channel Defaults, configure:
- Text Channels --- choose the default mute level for new text channels you join.
- Direct Messages --- choose the default mute level for new DM conversations.
These defaults only affect channels created or joined after you save the setting. Existing channels keep their current notification state.
Applying Defaults to Existing Channels
If you want to retroactively apply your default setting to all existing channels:
- In the Notifications settings page, scroll to the Apply to Existing Channels section.
- Click Text Channels to apply the text channel default to every text channel in your workspace.
- Click Direct Messages to apply the DM default to every direct message conversation.
Applying defaults to existing channels overwrites the individual notification setting of every affected channel. This action cannot be undone. Review your default setting carefully before clicking.
Desktop and Mobile Notifications
Copera supports browser-based desktop notifications and mobile push notifications. When a channel is set to Not Muted or Mentions Only, you will receive:
- Desktop notifications --- a system-level notification appears in your OS notification center when you receive a qualifying message.
- Mobile push notifications --- if you have the Copera mobile app installed, push notifications arrive on your phone for the same qualifying messages.
To enable or disable desktop notifications, check your browser notification permissions for the Copera domain.
Email Notification Digests
For meeting channel sessions, Copera can send email summaries after a session ends. These are configured per meeting channel in the channel's Transcription settings:
- Participants receive email summary --- all participants get an email with the session transcript and AI-generated summary.
- External users receive email summary --- guests who joined via an external link also receive the summary.
- Specific users receive email summary --- only selected users receive the email.
Tips for Managing Notification Noise
- Start with "Mentions Only" for large channels. High-traffic channels like company-wide announcements benefit from a quieter default.
- Use time-based mutes during focus work. Mute a chatty project channel for 8 hours while you need deep focus, and it will automatically unmute when you are done.
- Set global defaults early. If you tend to prefer quiet channels, set your default to "Mentions Only" so every new channel you join respects that preference automatically.
- Review periodically. As projects wrap up, unmute channels you silenced temporarily so you do not miss new activity.
