Narrate Campaign Performance With AI

By the end of this recipe you'll get a plain-English recap of what actually worked across your campaigns — which ones beat their goals, which channels drove results, and what to double down on next — posted to your marketing channel without anyone building a slide. A performance recap is a read-and-narrate job: someone has to look across every campaign, compare goal to actual, and write up the story. Because your campaigns, results, briefs, and chat all live in one workspace, Copera AI can read the whole board and do that narration for you.

Readiness: Available now — ask Copera AI on demand, backed by automations that recap each campaign the moment it ends and flag goal-versus-actual so the numbers stay honest. A single named teammate that reads every campaign board and posts the recap on its own schedule is rolling out in early access.

What it does

Every retro, someone asks the same three questions: What worked? What flopped? What do we do more of? This recipe answers them in one channel post, and it works in two layers:

  1. An always-current results layer (automations). Small automations on your campaign board write a short recap the moment a campaign ends, and flag whether each one beat or missed its goal. Your board's "what worked" signal stays honest and current — no campaign closes without its result recorded.
  2. A narrated portfolio recap (Ask Copera AI). On demand, Copera AI reads across the whole board — the numbers, the recaps the automations wrote, even the campaign brief doc — and narrates the story: what beat goal, what missed, which channels won, and what to repeat. It posts the summary to your marketing channel, or drafts it as a document for a leadership review.

Splitting it this way is what keeps the recap trustworthy: the automations keep the per-campaign data honest, and Copera AI turns that honest data into a narrative your team can read in ten seconds. Nothing here goes to a customer — it's an internal read for your marketers, grounded only in numbers already on your board.

Build it yourself

The portfolio recap itself is a read-and-narrate task, and the fastest way to produce it is to ask Copera AI (next section) — that's the path we recommend, because it reads across every campaign board, your brief docs, and the web in one go. What you build here is the results layer: automations that keep each campaign's outcome recorded and its verdict consistent, so the recap Copera AI writes is always accurate.

One-time setup

Get your campaign board ready

Open your campaign board and make sure the campaigns table has the columns a recap needs to read: Channel (a status or label column), Goal (number — the target for whatever you're measuring), Actual (number — the result), Owner (people), Status (with options like Planned, Live, and Complete), a Result status column (Beat goal, Hit goal, Missed goal), and a Recap rich-text column for the written summary. If you're unsure how columns fit together, see Boards Overview.

Add a “Completed campaigns” view

Create a saved view filtered to Status is Complete, sorted by Actual descending. This is the queue your recap reads from — the finished campaigns, best results first.

Automation 1 — recap each campaign when it ends

Trigger: Field changed

On the campaign board, add an automation with a Field changed trigger watching Status, with a condition that it changed to Complete. This fires the moment a campaign wraps.

AI step: Generate the recap

Add an AI → Generate step that writes a short, two-or-three-line recap from the campaign's own numbers — its channel, goal, actual, and how far over or under it landed. (If the campaign row carries a lot of notes, use AI → Summarize instead to condense them.)

Action: Write it back to the row

Add a Set field (or Update row) action that saves the generated text into the Recap column. Now every finished campaign carries its own written summary — which is exactly what the portfolio recap will read later.

Action: Post it to the channel

Add a Post channel message action to your marketing channel so the team sees each result as it lands. (Prefer a nudge to one person? Swap in a Send direct message to the campaign's Owner.)

Automation 2 — flag goal versus actual

Trigger: Field changed

Add a second automation with a Field changed trigger watching Actual — it runs whenever the result is entered or updated.

Condition: compare actual to goal

Add a condition that compares the two numbers. Use a Formula condition (or a compare with greater or equal) to branch on whether Actual ≥ Goal.

Action: set the Result verdict

On the true branch, add a Set field action setting Result → Beat goal; on the false branch, set Result → Missed goal. Now the verdict is applied the same way every time, so your recap never has to guess what "worked."

tip

Don't want a whole automation just for the verdict? A Formula column can compute Beat / Hit / Missed straight from Actual and Goal with no run cost at all — reach for the automation only when you also want it to notify someone or set a status other views depend on.

Everything above uses documented Automation blocks — see the full list in Automations. What automations don't do on their own is read across every campaign, your brief doc, and outside benchmarks to narrate one connected story — that's the read-heavy job Copera AI is built for, next.

Or just ask Copera AI

This is the fastest path to the actual recap, and the one we recommend. Open Ask Copera AI and ask for it in plain English:

"Read our Campaigns board and give me last month's performance recap. For each completed campaign, say whether it beat, hit, or missed its goal and by how much; call out the single channel that drove the most results; then list the three biggest wins and the two biggest misses, and finish with what we should double down on and what to stop. Post it as a summary in the #marketing channel and @mention each campaign's owner."

Ask Copera AI reads and searches your workspace data, so it opens the campaign board, compares each campaign's actual to its goal, reasons about which channels performed, and drafts the recap — pulling in the per-campaign recaps your automations already wrote. Then it posts a channel message to #marketing. With the default Ask before acting permission mode, it shows you the drafted message on a review card before it posts — you read it, tweak a line, and approve. It only ever reads campaigns and posts to channels your own account can already reach. See the full capability list in What Copera AI Can Do.

A few useful variations of the same ask:

  • Send it to leadership. Swap "Post it in #marketing" for "Draft it as a document I can share with the leadership team" — Copera AI can create the doc for you to review before anyone else sees it.
  • Benchmark it. Add "…and look up typical open and click rates for our industry, and tell me where we're ahead or behind." Copera AI can search the web and fold the comparison into the recap.
  • Pull the strategy in. Add "…and check our Q3 campaign brief doc — did we hit the goals we set there?" It reads your workspace docs, so the recap is measured against the plan, not just the raw numbers.
  • Plan the follow-up. Add "…and check my calendar for a good 30-minute slot this week to review the misses with the team." Copera AI can read your schedule and suggest a time.

To get this monthly, just ask at the start of each month and reuse the saved prompt. For a version that runs entirely on its own, see the next section.

Make it a standing teammate

Early access

AI teammates are rolling out gradually. If you don't see them in your workspace yet, they're on the way — everything in this guide can be built today as an Automation plus an on-demand ask to Copera AI.

When one is available, you can put a named teammate — a "Campaign Analyst" — in charge of this whole recap. On its own schedule and under its own identity, it reads your campaign boards, narrates what worked across the portfolio, and posts the recap to your marketing channel (or writes it into a shared document) — no one has to ask. A teammate's read tools are always on and posting to channels is opt-in; it can't delete data or send anything outside your workspace, so the recap stays a safe, internal briefing. Until then, the automations above plus the on-demand ask do the same job today. Learn more in AI Teammates.

Tips

tip

Decide what "goal" means once, in a column. Put the target for each campaign in a Goal number column and the outcome in an Actual column. Then your verdict automation and your Ask Copera AI prompt apply the same definition of success every time, and the recap stays consistent instead of drifting month to month.

tip

Let the automations write the sentences, then let Copera AI connect them. The per-campaign recap automation gives every finished campaign its own summary line. When you later ask Copera AI for the portfolio recap, it has those lines to build on — so the monthly narrative comes together faster and reads more consistently.

tip

Feed in outside numbers with a connector. If your real metrics live in an analytics export, add a scheduled automation with the Google Sheets connector to read them into the board before you narrate. The recap is only as good as the numbers it reads — see the full list in Connectors.

tip

Review before it posts, then trust it. Keep the default Ask before acting mode so you see each recap on a review card before it hits the channel. After a couple of clean months you'll know exactly what to expect — and you can always ask it to DM the draft to you first for a private read.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Copera AI tell me how my marketing campaigns performed?

Yes. Ask Copera AI reads your campaign board, and for each campaign tells you whether it beat, hit, or missed its goal, which channels drove the most results, and the biggest wins and misses — then posts the recap to your marketing channel. It runs on demand today, and by default shows you the message on a review card before it posts.

Does Copera pull the campaign numbers in automatically, or do I enter them?

Copera narrates the numbers that live on your campaign board — it never invents figures. If your metrics sit in a spreadsheet, a scheduled automation using the Google Sheets connector can read them into the board so the recap is always current before Copera AI narrates it.

Can it narrate results across several campaign boards at once?

Yes — ask Copera AI on demand, because it reads and searches across your whole workspace. A single automation is scoped to one board, so for a recap that spans multiple campaign boards, a brief document, and web benchmarks, ask Copera AI. A standing teammate that narrates the whole portfolio on a schedule is rolling out in early access.

Does it just show numbers, or explain what worked?

It explains in plain English — which campaigns beat their goals, which channels drove the results, and what to do more of next time — grounded in the numbers already on your board. It narrates the story behind the metrics rather than rendering a chart.

Can I get the recap automatically after every campaign?

Yes. Build a Field-changed automation that writes a short recap the moment a campaign's status flips to Complete, plus a rule that flags whether each campaign beat or missed its goal. For a narrator that reviews the whole portfolio on its own schedule, assign a standing AI teammate — that version is rolling out in early access.
