February 2026: Workflow Engine, Open-Source Starter App, and Major AI Upgrades
February was a shorter month, but we packed in a lot. We shipped our Workflow Engine with SLA tracking, released an open-source Starter Application, and brought major AI upgrades across the platform — plus 80+ bug fixes. Here's everything.
New: Workflow Engine, SLA Tracking & Approvals
The biggest release of the month. Boards now support a full Workflow Engine that lets you define exactly how work moves through your process:
- Workflow transitions — Define which status changes are allowed, who can make them, and what conditions must be met
- Inline transition editing — Rename transitions directly in the workflow editor
- Required fields — Ensure specific columns are filled before a task can move to the next status
- Approval workflows — Route tasks through approval chains before they can proceed
- SLA tracking — Set time-based goals per status with customizable business calendars. Track how long items spend in each stage and get alerted before deadlines
- Per-status visibility — Control which columns are visible at each workflow stage, keeping your board clean and focused
This is a game-changer for teams running structured processes — support queues, hiring pipelines, content approvals, and more.
New: Open-Source Starter Application
We're releasing an open-source Starter Application that shows you how to build custom applications on top of your Copera Boards using the @copera.ai/sdk.
The idea is simple: your Boards act as the database, and you build any frontend you want on top of them. The Starter App gives you a working foundation — a Fastify API, a React frontend with Tailwind CSS, authentication, and everything wired up. From there, you can turn it into anything:
- A customer support portal
- A product catalog or storefront
- An HR self-service portal
- A project submission form
- Anything that reads from or writes to your Boards
The current reference implementation is a support ticket portal, but it's designed to be customized for any use case. And you can use AI tools — Copera AI, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor — to help you build and customize your app. Just point the AI to your column IDs and the Copera University documentation.
We're also adding developer documentation to Copera University with a setup guide, column ID reference, and tips for building with AI.

Improved: Meeting Channels
- Raise Hand — Request to speak with a dedicated raise hand button, complete with a sound notification and an ordered queue so no one gets skipped
- Dynamic tile layout — Video tiles now resize and rearrange dynamically based on the number of participants
- Auto speaker identification — After a recording, Copera now automatically matches speakers to transcription segments, so you know who said what without manual tagging

Improved: Boards
Beyond the Workflow Engine, boards got several enhancements:
- Nested formulas & rollups — Formulas can now reference other formulas and rollups, enabling complex calculated fields
