Meeting Channels: Persistent Video Meeting Rooms in Copera

Meeting channels are persistent video meeting rooms that live in your Copera workspace sidebar, always ready for your team to join. Unlike one-off video call links that expire after a single session, a meeting channel stays in place permanently so you can hop in and out whenever a live conversation is needed. Each channel comes with screen sharing, background blur and virtual backgrounds, on-screen drawing (via Highlight on the desktop app), a shared whiteboard, live document collaboration, AI transcription and meeting summaries, and support for over 100 simultaneous participants. Think of them as your team's dedicated conference rooms — except they are a click away no matter where you are.

What makes meeting channels different

Traditional video conferencing tools require someone to create a link, share it with participants, and hope everyone joins at the right time. Meeting channels flip that model. The room already exists in the sidebar, visible to everyone who has access. When you need to talk, you simply click and join. When the conversation is over, you leave -- and the room stays for next time.

Each meeting channel keeps a history of past sessions, including transcriptions, whiteboards, and collaborative documents created during previous calls. This means you can always go back and review what was discussed or continue editing a document from a previous meeting.

Key features at a glance

Meeting channels are packed with collaboration tools that go beyond basic video calls:

  • Audio and video conferencing -- high-quality audio and video, with support for camera, microphone, and speaker selection before or during a call. Tested with over 100 participants simultaneously with great stability.
  • Background effects -- blur your real background or replace it with an image, so your surroundings stay private and your video looks polished. Each person sets their own effect, before or during the call.
  • Screen sharing -- share your entire screen, a specific application window, or a browser tab with quality presets. Up to 2 participants can share simultaneously. Learn more in Screen Sharing.
  • Highlight (draw on screen) -- on the Copera Desktop app for Windows, macOS, and Linux, draw on top of your entire screen with a transparent overlay so you can circle, underline, and point at exactly what you mean while sharing. Works in Copera meetings, Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and any other call. Learn more in Highlight.
  • Whiteboard -- open an interactive whiteboard inside the meeting for brainstorming, diagramming, or sketching ideas together in real time.
  • Document collaboration -- create or open a shared document during the call so everyone can co-edit simultaneously while discussing changes live.
  • Transcription and AI summaries -- start a transcription to capture everything that is said, with automatic speaker identification. After the meeting, AI generates a summary of the discussion.
  • Raise hand with an ordered queue -- signal that you want to speak. Copera keeps everyone's raised hands in the exact order they went up and shows the queue to the whole room, so the host always knows who is next.
  • Soundboard -- play short sounds and audio reactions into the meeting for a bit of fun or to react without unmuting.
  • In-meeting chat -- send text messages to other participants during the call for sharing links, side comments, or quick notes.
  • Participant management -- view who is in the call, invite additional users, pin a participant to keep them on the main stage, and (for admins) end the session for all participants.
  • Channel locking -- lock a meeting channel so that no additional participants can join while a sensitive or private conversation is in progress.
  • View modes -- switch between grid view (see everyone at once), speaker view (the main stage automatically follows whoever is talking), and focus view (pin one person or shared item to the main stage). Go fullscreen any time for a distraction-free experience.
  • Resizable one-on-one video -- in one-on-one calls, resize the video tiles to your preferred layout.
  • Meeting sounds and invite preferences -- audible cues when participants join, leave, or when events occur. Each person chooses how incoming meeting invites appear (a full-screen call or a small banner), which invite sound plays, and whether meeting sounds are on at all.
  • Double-click to connect -- optionally require a double-click to join a meeting channel, preventing accidental connections from a single click.
  • Guest access with a waiting room -- invite people from outside your workspace with a link. Guests wait in a lobby until someone already in the meeting lets them in.
  • Scheduling -- schedule meetings in advance through the agenda so participants are notified and can plan ahead.
