Timeline View
The Timeline view plots your board items along a horizontal time axis, organized into resource rows. Unlike the Gantt view, which focuses on dependencies and project planning, the Timeline view emphasizes resource allocation --- showing who is working on what and when. Items appear as color-coded bars placed on a scheduler-style grid, grouped by a column of your choice.
Setting Up a Timeline View
When creating a Timeline view, you configure:
- Start Date column --- The date field that defines when each item begins.
- End Date column --- The date field that defines when each item ends.
- Group By column (optional) --- A Status, Dropdown, or Users column used to organize items into horizontal resource lanes.
- Access --- Set the view to Everyone or Private.
Both date columns must be existing Date-type columns in your table.
Time Scales
The Timeline toolbar lets you switch between three time scales:
- TimelineDay --- Each column represents a single day. Useful for detailed short-term schedules.
- TimelineWeek --- Each column represents a week. Good for sprint or iteration planning.
- TimelineMonth --- Each column represents a month. Best for long-range roadmaps and quarterly overviews.
Navigate forward and backward using the toolbar arrows, or click Today to center the view on the current date.
Resource Lanes
When a Group By column is configured, items are organized into horizontal lanes. Each lane corresponds to a unique value from the grouping field:
- If grouped by Users, each team member gets their own lane.
- If grouped by Status, each status option gets its own lane.
- If grouped by Dropdown, each option gets its own lane.
Resource lane headers appear on the left side of the view, showing the grouping value (name, avatar, or label).
Interacting with Items
- Click an item to open the row detail dialog where you can view and edit all fields.
- Drag an item horizontally to change its start and end dates. The dates update immediately in the underlying data.
- Click an empty cell to create a new item at that date and resource lane. The new item is pre-filled with the corresponding date and group value.
Filtering, Sorting, and Searching
All standard toolbar controls are available:
- Filter --- Show only items that match specific criteria.
- Sort --- Control the order of items within each resource lane.
- Search --- Highlight items matching keywords.
Tips
- Use the Users grouping to get a team-level view of who is working on what during a given period.
- Switch to TimelineDay for daily stand-ups and TimelineMonth for executive summaries.
- Drag items directly on the timeline to reschedule --- changes are reflected instantly in all other views.
