Keyboard Shortcuts
Bankai is controlled through global keyboard shortcuts — they work whether Copera is in the foreground or not, as long as the desktop app is running.
Every shortcut supports two gestures:
- Hold the keys, speak, and release to start and stop a recording (push-to-talk).
- Tap the same keys quickly to start a hands-free recording — no need to keep holding. Tap again to stop.
Core Shortcuts
These are the shortcuts you will use most often.
Windows
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Push-to-talk | Ctrl+Win (hold or tap) |
| Cycle voice mode | Win+Shift |
| Cancel recording | Escape |
macOS
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Push-to-talk | Fn (hold or tap) |
| Cycle voice mode | Ctrl+Shift |
| Cancel recording | Escape |
How Push-to-Talk Works
Push-to-talk is the primary recording method. Hold the shortcut, speak, then release to stop and process. If you release almost instantly, Bankai treats it as a tap (see below) rather than a too-short recording.
How Hands-Free Works
A quick tap of the push-to-talk shortcut starts a hands-free recording — you do not need to keep the keys pressed. Tap the same shortcut again to stop and process. This is ideal for longer dictation where holding a key would be uncomfortable.
Press Escape at any time to cancel a recording without processing it.
How Mode Cycling Works
The mode cycle shortcut rotates through your enabled modes in order:
Omni → Dictation → Ask → Commands → Chat → Omni
Each press advances to the next mode. The floating widget updates to show the new mode's name, color, and icon. Your selected mode persists between sessions and follows you across your devices. (When you enable Vision Mode, it joins the rotation too.)
Direct Mode Shortcuts
For instant access to a specific mode without cycling, use the direct mode shortcuts. Like the core shortcut, each can be held (push-to-talk) or tapped (hands-free), and it temporarily overrides your current mode for that one recording.
Windows
| Mode | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Dictation | Win+Alt |
| Ask | Win+Alt+Shift |
| Commands | Win+Alt+X |
| Chat | Ctrl+Win+Shift |
| Vision | Ctrl+Win+Alt |
macOS
| Mode | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Dictation | Fn+Ctrl |
| Ask | Fn+Option |
| Commands | Fn+Command |
| Chat | Fn+Shift |
| Vision | Fn+Ctrl+Option |
After the recording is processed, your mode returns to whatever it was before.
Example
You are in Omni mode and want to ask a quick question without switching modes:
- Hold Win+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Fn+Option (Mac).
- Speak your question.
- Release the keys.
- The question is processed in Ask mode.
- Your mode remains Omni for the next recording.
Bankai Notes Shortcuts
Bankai Notes — the meeting recorder — has its own start and stop shortcuts so you can begin a recording hands-free. A quick press starts the recording; a separate chord stops it. The exact keys differ by platform and are shown in the onboarding wizard and the Shortcuts settings card. You can also start and stop Notes from the floating bar, the notes window, or the in-meeting button in a Copera call.
Customizing Shortcuts
In the Copera desktop app, all keyboard shortcuts are customizable:
- Go to Voice Settings (click the gear icon next to your Bankai name).
- Open the Shortcuts card.
- Click the pencil icon next to any shortcut.
- Press the new key combination you want to use.
- The shortcut is saved immediately.
Press Escape while recording a new shortcut to cancel the change.
Shortcut customization is stored locally on your device. If you use Copera on multiple computers, you will need to set up your preferred shortcuts on each one.
