Participants & Roles

Every meeting channel in Copera shows a live list of participants so you always know who is on the call. The participant list also provides quick actions for managing audio, video, and membership -- with different capabilities depending on whether you are a regular participant or an admin of the channel.

Viewing the participant list

The participant list is displayed in the sidebar of the meeting channel. Each entry shows the participant's avatar, name, and status indicators for their microphone, camera, screen share, and hand-raise state:

IconMeaning
Microphone offParticipant has muted their microphone
Headphones offParticipant has deafened their audio
Camera onParticipant's camera is active
Screen shareParticipant is sharing their screen
Hand raisedParticipant has raised their hand to speak

When someone is invited but has not yet joined, the list shows their invite status -- ringing, asking to join, declined, or no answer -- so you can see at a glance whether people are on their way.

Participant roles

Meeting channels inherit the role structure of the underlying chat channel. The two key roles that affect meeting behavior are:

RoleCapabilities
AdminFull control: can mute any participant's microphone, camera, or screen share; can remove participants from the call; can end the meeting for everyone; can lock the channel to prevent new joiners.
MemberCan join the meeting, use all collaboration tools (whiteboard, document, transcription), share screen, and manage their own audio/video settings. Cannot manage other participants.

Admins see a three-dot menu next to each participant in the list, which opens a popover with management actions. Regular members only see the volume control when clicking on another participant.

Managing participants as an admin

Muting a participant

If a participant has background noise or needs to be temporarily silenced, admins can mute their microphone remotely. Click the three-dot menu next to the participant and select Mute participant. The participant will see a notification that their microphone was muted and can unmute themselves when ready.

Admins can also mute a participant's camera or screen share if those tracks are active, using the same menu.

Removing a participant

To remove someone from the call, open the three-dot menu and select Remove participant. The participant is disconnected from the meeting immediately. They can rejoin later unless the channel has been locked.

Adjusting volume

Both admins and regular members can adjust the local playback volume of any other participant. Click on a participant to open the volume slider. This only changes the volume on your device -- it does not affect what others hear.

Inviting participants

During an active meeting, you can invite additional workspace members to join. Click the Invite users button in the control bar. The invited users receive a notification and can join the meeting with a single click. The participant list shows the invite status as the invitation progresses.

Ending the meeting for everyone

Admins have the option to end the meeting for all participants at once, rather than leaving individually. This disconnects every participant simultaneously and closes the session. This is useful for scheduled meetings where you want a clean cutoff at the end.
