Voice Calls
Copera includes peer-to-peer (P2P) voice calling so you can jump from a text conversation to a live audio call without leaving the platform. Voice calls are designed for quick, informal conversations -- think of them as the digital equivalent of tapping a colleague on the shoulder.
Starting a Voice Call
To initiate a call from a one-on-one DM:
- Open the direct message conversation with the person you want to call.
- Click the Call button (phone icon) in the conversation header.
- Copera connects the call and notifies the other person with a ringing dialog where they can accept or decline.
Once the other person accepts, the audio connection is established and you can begin talking immediately.
Voice calls are available only in one-on-one DMs between internal workspace members. They are not available in group DMs or in conversations with external (guest) users. For group audio or video, use a meeting channel instead.
Call Controls
During an active call, you have access to the following controls:
- Mute / Unmute -- Toggle your microphone on or off so the other person cannot hear you temporarily.
- End Call -- Hang up and return to the text conversation.
The call controls appear in the active call bar, which stays visible while you navigate other parts of Copera so you never accidentally lose track of an ongoing call.
How Voice Calls Differ from Meeting Channels
It is important to understand the distinction between voice calls and meeting channels, since they serve different purposes:
| Voice Calls | Meeting Channels | |
|---|---|---|
| Participants | 2 (one-on-one only) | Unlimited |
| Video | Audio only | Audio and video |
| Screen sharing | Not available | Available |
| Recording / Transcription | Not available | Available |
| Scheduling | Not available | Available |
| Best for | Quick, spontaneous conversations | Planned meetings and collaboration |
Voice calls are intentionally lightweight. When you need richer collaboration features -- video, screen sharing, transcription, or more than two participants -- create or join a meeting channel instead.
Tips for a Good Call Experience
- Use a headset to reduce echo and background noise.
- Check your microphone permissions in your browser if the other person cannot hear you. Copera needs access to your microphone to place calls.
- Stay on a stable connection. Voice calls use real-time audio streaming, so a reliable internet connection helps maintain clear audio quality.
