Sending Messages

Once you have opened a direct message conversation, sending a message is as simple as typing in the composer at the bottom of the screen and pressing Enter. This page covers everything you can do inside that composer and the actions available on messages after they are sent.

Composing a Message

Click the message input field at the bottom of the conversation to start typing. Press Enter to send, or Shift + Enter to insert a new line without sending.

Rich Text Formatting

The message composer supports a variety of formatting options so your messages are clear and easy to read:

FormatShortcutSyntax
BoldCtrl/Cmd + B**text**
ItalicCtrl/Cmd + I*text*
StrikethroughCtrl/Cmd + Shift + X~~text~~
Inline codeCtrl/Cmd + E`code`
Code block--```code```
LinkCtrl/Cmd + KPaste a URL or use the link dialog
Bulleted list--- item
Numbered list--1. item

You can also use the formatting toolbar that appears above the composer for quick access to these options without memorizing shortcuts.

Sharing Files and Images

Drag and drop a file directly into the conversation, or click the attachment icon in the composer toolbar to open a file picker. Copera supports images, documents, PDFs, and other common file types. Image previews appear inline so recipients can see them without downloading.

Emoji Reactions

Hover over any message to reveal the action toolbar, then click the emoji icon to add a reaction. Reactions are a lightweight way to acknowledge a message, vote on an idea, or signal agreement without sending a separate reply.

Editing a Message

Made a typo or need to update something you already sent? Hover over your own message, click the three-dot menu, and select Edit. The message content loads back into the composer where you can make changes and press Enter to save. Edited messages display a small "edited" indicator so other participants know the content was modified.

Deleting a Message

To remove a message you sent, hover over it, click the three-dot menu, and select Delete. You will be asked to confirm before the message is permanently removed from the conversation.

Pinning Messages

Important messages can be pinned so they are easy to find later. Hover over a message, open the three-dot menu, and choose Pin. Pinned messages are accessible from the pin icon in the conversation header, giving every participant a quick reference list of key information.

Threaded Replies

Click on a message or select Reply in thread from the action toolbar to open a side thread. Threads keep follow-up discussion organized without cluttering the main conversation timeline. Replies in a thread are visible to all conversation participants.

Use the search icon in the conversation header to find messages within the current DM. Type a keyword or phrase and results will be highlighted in the conversation, making it easy to locate past discussions.

Read Receipts

Copera tracks when messages have been seen by participants. In one-on-one conversations, you will see a read indicator confirming that the other person has viewed your message. In group DMs, read status is tracked for each participant.
