Recents

The Recents section sits at the top of the Communicate sidebar and gives you instant access to the channels, conversations, and content you have interacted with most recently. Instead of scrolling through long channel lists or searching for a document you opened an hour ago, you can click straight into it from Recents.

What Appears in Recents

Recents automatically tracks the items you visit across the entire workspace. The list can include any combination of the following item types:

  • Text channels -- public or private channels you have sent messages in or read recently.
  • Direct messages -- one-on-one or group conversations.
  • Threads -- replies within a channel that you have participated in or viewed.
  • Meeting channels -- voice and video channels you have joined.
  • Board views and rows -- specific board views or individual rows you have opened.
  • Documents -- docs you have edited or read.
  • Drive files and folders -- files or folders you have accessed in Drive.
  • AI conversations -- recent interactions with the AI assistant.

Items with unread messages are highlighted in bold and display a badge showing the unread count. Channels that are fully muted will not display an unread badge, keeping the list clean.

How Items Are Ordered

Recents uses a priority-based ordering system. Items with unread messages are promoted to the top and sorted by unread count so that the most active conversations are always the first things you see. Items without unread activity are sorted by the time you last accessed them, with the most recent at the top.

When a new message arrives in a channel that is already in your Recents list, it moves up automatically. This means the list stays dynamic and always reflects where the current activity is happening.

Configuring Recents

Click the gear icon next to the Recents header to open the settings popover. From here you can customize exactly what appears in the list:

  • Presets -- quickly switch between a "Communication only" preset (DMs, text channels, and threads) or an "Everything" preset that includes all supported item types.
  • Feature toggles -- individually enable or disable each item type. For example, you can show only direct messages and documents while hiding boards and Drive items.
  • Visible count -- control how many items are shown before the overflow. Choose from 3, 5, 8, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 50 visible items.
  • Reset -- restore the default settings at any time.

If the total number of recent items exceeds the visible count you have selected, a More button appears at the bottom of the list. Clicking it opens a drawer with the full list of recent items so nothing is lost.

Removing Items

Every item in the Recents list has a close button that appears when you hover over it. Click the X to remove a single item from the list. The item will reappear if you visit it again later.

Disabling Recents

If you prefer a cleaner sidebar without the Recents section, you can disable it entirely from the settings popover. Click the Disable Recents option at the bottom of the settings menu. You can re-enable it at any time from the sidebar settings.

tip

Recents is especially useful when you work across multiple channels and documents throughout the day. Keep the visible count at 5 or 8 for a focused view, or increase it to 20 or more if you frequently switch between many items.
